About Our Name

Monomoy Island is a classic barrier island that lies at the southern tip of Chatham, jutting into Nantucket Sound about eight miles from the mainland. Its 2,750 acres are predominantly barrier beach island of sand dunes, freshwater ponds, and salt and freshwater marshes. Without question, Monomoy Island is a Nature Paradise no matter the season.
